In my experience, there simply isn't very much routine service that needs to be performed on a properly functioning pedal. I recommend periodically confirming that the pedal rotates smoothly and that the cleat retention mechanism continues to engage and release properly.

If a pedal develops abnormal bearing noise, excessive play, inconsistent cleat engagement, or a problem with the cleat tension assembly, I generally recommend replacing the pedal rather than attempting to repair it.

For commercial indoor cycling applications, replacement is typically the most practical and reliable solution once a pedal develops a mechanical issue.

Before installing any replacement pedal, I highly recommend carefully inspecting and thoroughly cleaning the crank arm pedal threads that will receive the new pedal.
