Stages Pedal Upgrade – SPD & LOOK Delta Compatible Commercial Indoor Cycle Pedal
The Stages Pedal Upgrade is a commercial-duty indoor cycle pedal designed to replace the original Stages SPD/toe cage pedal with a stronger, smoother, and more versatile SPD & LOOK Delta compatible pedal.
Sold as a pair. Includes one left pedal and one right pedal.
Designed for riders using SPD or LOOK Delta cycling shoes.
Built on the proven Exustar PS8 pedal platform, this upgrade is ideal for Stages SC1, SC2, and SC3 owners who want a durable pedal system built for high-use studio and home indoor cycling environments.
Commercial Pedal Upgrade for Stages Indoor Cycles
The original Stages pedal is a basic dual-function SPD/toe cage pedal. While functional, it is one of the most common wear items on Stages indoor cycles, especially in commercial studios where pedals are exposed to high cadence, rider torque, sweat, and repeated cleat engagement.
The Stages Pedal Upgrade provides a meaningful improvement by replacing the original SPD/toe cage design with a dedicated dual-interface pedal featuring:
- Shimano SPD compatibility on one side
- LOOK Delta compatibility on the opposite side
- Commercial-duty construction for studio and home use
- Sealed bearing design for smooth rotation
- Adjustable release tension
- Standard 9/16" pedal threads
- Sold as a pair: left and right pedal included
Original Stages Pedal vs. Stages Pedal Upgrade
| Feature | Original Stages SPD/Toe Cage Pedal | Stages Pedal Upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Shimano SPD Compatible | Yes | Yes |
| LOOK Delta Compatible | No | Yes |
| Toe Cage | Yes | No |
| Designed for Cycling Shoes | SPD Side Only | SPD & LOOK Delta Compatible |
Compatible with Stages SC1, SC2 & SC3
This pedal upgrade fits Stages indoor cycles utilizing standard 9/16" crank arms, including:
- Stages SC1 Indoor Cycles
- Stages SC2 Indoor Cycles
- Stages SC3 Indoor Cycles
While designed as our preferred upgrade for Stages indoor cycles, the Exustar PS8 is also compatible with most indoor cycles utilizing standard 9/16" pedal threads.
SPD & LOOK Delta Compatible Indoor Cycle Pedal
The Exustar PS8 is designed for riders and facilities that want true dual-cleat compatibility without relying on a toe cage. One side accepts Shimano SPD cleats while the opposite side accepts LOOK Delta cleats.
This makes the PS8 an excellent choice for studios, gyms, and home riders seeking improved durability, smoother engagement, and support for the two most common indoor cycling cleat systems.
- SPD-compatible clip-in side
- LOOK Delta-compatible clip-in side
- No toe cage required
- Secure cleat engagement
- Adjustable release tension
Built for Commercial Indoor Cycling
Indoor cycling pedals experience constant stress from seated climbs, standing efforts, high-cadence riding, repeated clipping in and out, and sweat exposure. Lower-quality pedals can develop bearing play, inconsistent retention, thread damage, or premature failure.
The Exustar PS8 is built for demanding indoor cycling environments with:
- Sealed bearings for smooth, consistent rotation
- Oversized chromoly spindle for strength
- Corrosion-resistant construction
- Durable pedal body designed for indoor cycling use
- Commercial-duty performance for studios and serious home riders

How do I replace a Stages Power Meter?
To replace your Stages Power Meter Crank Arm (which includes the entire left crank arm with integrated power meter), follow the step-by-step instructions below using the proper tools and supplies.
🔧 Tools & Supplies Needed
- 8mm Allen wrench or 8mm Allen socket with ratchet drive (recommended)
- Park Tool HPG-1 High Performance Grease
- Park Tool PW-4 Professional Pedal Wrench (or equivalent)
- Loctite 243 (blue threadlocker)
- TitanFlex heavy-duty nitrile gloves (or equivalent)
🛠️ Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Wear Gloves
Put on nitrile gloves to keep grease and threadlocker off your skin. -
Remove the Pedal
Use a pedal wrench to remove the pedal from the existing crank arm.- Left pedal = reverse-threaded (turn clockwise to loosen)
-
Remove the Existing Crank Arm
Use an 8mm Allen wrench or socket with ratchet to turn the crank bolt counter-clockwise.- This is a self-extracting bolt — it will loosen and automatically remove the crank arm.
-
Clean the Spindle
Wipe the bottom bracket spindle's splines and internal threads clean using a dry cloth. -
Apply Grease and Threadlocker
Apply a thin coat of Park Tool HPG-1 grease to the spindle splines and a small drop of Loctite 243 to the internal threads of the spindle. -
Install the New Stages Power Meter Crank Arm
Slide the new crank arm onto the spindle so it is 180° opposite the right crank arm. -
Tighten the Crank Bolt
Thread the crank bolt in by hand, then firmly tighten with your 8mm wrench or ratchet. -
Reinstall the Pedal
Thread the pedal back into the new crank arm.- Left pedal = reverse-threaded (turn counter-clockwise to tighten)
-
Final Check
Ensure both crank arms are 180° apart, the crank spins smoothly, and all bolts are secure.
For the Stages bike frame, use a diluted solution of Simple Green at a ratio of 1:30 (1 part Simple Green to 30 parts water). Spray onto a microfiber cloth and wipe the entire frame including crank covers. Dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
Stages indoor bikes use only metric tools. Never use fractional tools. For a complete tool guide, email us at sales@indoorcyclepros.com and we’ll provide access to our Stages Bike Tool Kit.
Use a 13mm open end wrench or 13mm socket with ratchet to loosen each side of the saddle clamp, make your adjustment, then re-tighten evenly. Check out our Stages saddles collection.
Use a quality #0 Phillips screwdriver to remove the tiny screws on the battery cover of your Stages Power Meter. Replace the AA batteries, ensuring the correct +/− orientation. For a tighter fit, wrap a layer of electrical tape around each battery.
Find the 5-digit ANT ID on your Stages Power Meter. While pedaling, open the StagesPower app and check for a matching device. If no connection occurs, press the reset button for 3 seconds, try again, and replace AA batteries if needed.
